My Top 20 Albums of the Decade (2000-09)

So I realize I am about 4 months behind on doing this post since most blogs and websites did theres in early January. But it was because of them that I was inspired to do one of these posts. So I finally sat down to bang this list out ... and it was NOT EASY!

Now most of the lists I saw seemed to base their rankings solely on critical acclaim and album sales... which makes sense, but who gives a shit? Considering I only listen to the radio when my ipod is dead or I have exhausted every cd in sight I did not agree with most of the lists.

So how would I possibly go about making this list you ask? Well after throwing out a couple of ideas like playcounts, actual purchases, bands I would pay to see... I decided the best list would be one based on the impact they have left on me.

So here it is the Top 10 err 20ish Albums of the Decade

#20 Big Pun - Endangered Species 2001
I was hesitant to put this one on since it is basically a compilation cd and it came out after Pun had passed. Bottom line is that I listen to this CD to this day and every time I listen to it I get instant nostalgia of a road trip to Philly and Lake George.

#19 The Format Ineterventions + Lullabies 2003/ Dog Problems 2006/ Fun. -Aim & Ignite 2009
My first of a few cop outs is a three way tie for number nineteen. The Format holds a special place in my heart because I like to think I can relate to some of the songs and I was pretty bummed when the band separated, than something amazing came along in FUN. and it is ... fun!

#18 Gorillaz - Demon Days 2005
Had a hard time picking which Gorillaz CD to put on this list but when it comes down to it I owned the cd and the vinyl to this.
Cant forget the music videos and website than came along with this album so creative so diverse, kinda like my musical taste as you'll soon see.

#17 John Mayer - Where the Light Is 2008
Ok so maybe this can be considered a cop out as well since there is no original music on it. But it was my first time hearing JM live, and the dude can melt faces and explode vaginas. Neon Acoustic might be my favorite song of all time.

#16 Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III 2008
I dont care who you are, if you like this cd or not, it has left and impact on the world of music and I would be insane not to put it on here.

#15 Jimmy Eat World - Futures 2004
This may be another case of nostalgia or a cry for better times, But I actually bought this CD I can sing every word to every song on here. Probably because it was burned into my brain because every time we boozed down in my friend Paul's basement this cd came on.

#14 Jay-Z - THE Blueprint 2001
The original Blueprint was essentially my introduction to Jay-Z, because before that I was listening to everything my older sister listened to. This was like one of my first "look what I found" moments, little did I know at the time A young man from Chicago had hand crafted each song that I loved would soon become one of my favorite rappers.

#13 N.E.R.D. - In Search Of... 2002
You can't be me
I'm a Rock Star
I'm rhyming on the top of a cop car
I'm a rebel and my .44 pops far

It's almost over now
It's almost over now

and thats not even the best song on the cd... No one Ever Really Dies

#12 Silversun Pickups - Swoon 2009
Its hard to justify putting anything too new on here in fear that I will get sick of it eventually. But this CD is just so great. When I listen to this band I cant do any thing else it needs my full attention and I love it.

#11 Jet - Get Born 2003
WHoooooooooooooooo so this is what is was like for my parents growing up listening to AC/DC and Def Leppard.
This CD reminds me of driving around with the windows down on my way to do something fun!

#10 Linkin Park - Meteora 2003
Linkin Park before they left the prog rock scene for the political rock scene with green day and U2 actually used to be quite good. This cd was extremely well produced each song blended into the next one and before you know it you've listened to the whole thing and you never hit skip once.

#9 Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon: The End of the Day 2009
Again I hesitated to put something new on here but the way I see it Cudi is the future of Hip-Hop, and using Ratatat beats is really unfair, but this album is an instant classic.

#8 Minus The Bear - Menos El Oso 2005
This one brings me back to my first summer free from High School, good times, good friends, good tunes. Couldnt tell you how many drunken dances have been done to this album but I went as far as to buy the Vinyl copy so I could throw it on my turntables at parties, and even though I sold my tables I kept the Album because I couldn't bare the thought of giving to some stranger who might not appreciate it.

#7 DCFC - Plans 2005
When I first got this cd I listened to it 25 times through over 2 days... a song for every moment of life the cd sounds like a best of, like almost every song could have been a radio single, truly a great cd

#6 The Killers - Hot Fuss 2004/ Day & Age 2009
Man thank god these guys showed up when they did pop music was in a weird spot because nobody could understand what musicians were singing... not these guys I could drunk Karaoke all day to these guys c'mon don't act like you wouldn't either

#5 Paramore - Riot 2007
A girl singer no thanks, not interested... whoa who sings that song? Oh, really? foot in mouth... and I don't like feet. But I do LOVE this cd, whatd they have like 5 singles off of this. Trust me you don't want to be in the car with me and this cd I will scream every lyric , seriously

#4 Outkast - Stankonia 2000
This CD is so good I don't even think I need to explain anything here except why isnt it higher?

#3 Kanye West - College Dropout 2004/Kanye West - Late Registration 2005
I have been writing this post for like 2 hours now, and I keep going back and forth between these albums I just cant pick which one was better. Is it the introduction of Kanye or the phenomenal follow up? ... I will say the skits on Late Reg. funny at first but they sure as shit piss me off now when I just want to listen to music... why do rap cds always have to have skits?

#2 Eminem - The Marshall Mathers EP 2000
Ask my 13 year old self thinks about Eminem because I sure as shit wouldn't have the same answer now. This is was so intense, so amazing, so crazy, so over the top, so mindblowing Em will never ever to match this thing. He was just so angry and apparently so was 13 Nizzo because I FUCKIN LOVE THIS CD MOTHER FUCKER!

So as you can see I am kinda all over the place on this list and yeah I took a lot of cop outs with ties but I am really passionate about my music and since I cant play any actual instrument or sing or rap or anything, I all can do is sit back and appreciate.

and the ALBUM of the DECADE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#1 Minus The Bear - Highly Refined Pirates 2002
No other album has captured my attention like this one. A lot of bands have come and gone for me trust me I could have easily made a top 100 list but this one has lasted 8 years and it is still going strong. I think a harder list to make would be a top Minus the Bear Albums list, in my opinion it does not get better. MTB live is pretty mind blowing and the Album coming out this MAY just might be more proof of this.

SO thats it let it marinate leave me a comment if you want, I did just spend two hours writing this instead of doing hw but hey whatever.
